Do You Flow or Do You Stagnate?

Trigger Question #89:

I once lived in an old house in an old village back in the old country. The house had indoor plumbing. Well, sort of. The sewage did not flow, like city sewage, to a place far, far away. It flowed into two tanks in the garden, one on either side of the house.

But sometimes it did not flow.

Guess whose job it was to nudge the sludge back into the desired state of flow.

It’s a job soonest forgotten, but is not. What I mean is that we try to forget unpleasant experiences quickly, but some of them linger. This one has lingered over many decades because of the kinship between common nonsense and bull s… sewage. (At least in my mind.)

As I have reminded you ad nauseous (ahem), nonsense at work blocks you from being successful. Because it side-tracks you from your work, tricks you into wrong decisions, and trips you short of your goals.

How did I get the sludge to slide again? By removing the blockage. Note the word remove. The “re” in front of “move” clearly means to repeat. To move again. So that the sludge can flow away.

How can you get nonsense to flow away? Well, you can’t, because nonsense just is. But you can get away from it. By removing yourself. Re-move. Move again. Simple.

(But remove how? Well, at work, one of the easiest ‘removes’ is to walk away. Walk away from gossip, from people who routinely criticize others, from unfounded negativity. If you can’t walk away physically (maybe from your boss), then walk away mentally (tune out as best you can). Don’t participate, do not get sucked in, do not encourage.)

If you don’t move (flex) your muscles, your body will wither. If you don’t move (express) your feelings, your emotions will harden. And if you don’t move (examine) your thinking, your mind will clot.

If you don’t move and move again, you will be stuck.

Believe me, anyone who stays stuck will stagnate and be but a degree away from sh… sludge. And then, like my old sewage system, you will need someone willing to nudge you back into a desired state of flow.

Welcome to my side of the nonsense divide.
