Insight #63:
Do you feel as if it is you against the world? I don’t blame you. I often feel the same. But keep in mind that the world can’t be against each one of us individually. That would screw up the Law of Averages. You know how it works. For every one person who is down, someone must be up.
But how can you be the one who is up, at least for today? Simple. Assume, just for today, that not every curse is actually a curse. And, yes, according to the Law of Averages, you should also assume that not every blessing is a blessing.
Consider the following Irish blessing. You might think it is a blessing, but could it actually be a curse in disguise? Think carefully:
“May the road rise up to meet you. May the wind always be at your back.”
If you are already happy with your situation, or if you are staggering home from the pub, then this is undoubtedly a blessing worth receiving. But if you are aiming high, if your dreams are blue-sky, then you want the road well-traveled to fall away quickly. You need the wind from the front.
Keep in mind that airplanes take off into the wind. It is the rush of wind from the front that creates the lift needed for flight. Headwind is good wind for take-off. So face the wind. (Even aircraft carriers know this, which is why they steam into the wind when launching fighter jets.)
If you really want to soar with the eagles, then welcome the wind in your face. But if you want to keep trudging along, then bless that breeze on your behind.
Now you know how to be up and away, at least for today.
Welcome to my side of the nonsense divide.

Quote of the Moment:
The only time I bless the wind at my back is when I am running away, which happens often. The Chief Nonsense Officer.
