How To Change a Negative Into a Positive

Insight #363:

There are many negative events happening around us. Well, that depends. There are many people who see these events as positive. So really, there are many positive events happening. Actually, that depends. There are many people who see these events as negative.

You get the picture, don’t you? It’s not the events in themselves; it’s how you look at them. Oh, you’ve heard that before. Sorry.

But how should you look at events? Try this. Look at them with a ‘-‘ and with an ‘I’.

What is a negative? It is a ‘-‘. What is a positive? It is an ‘I’. Of course it is! Look at it this way. You, as in ‘I’, are always a positive. It’s just an ego thing. Unless you say to yourself, “I am a negative.” (Well, yes, that’s also an ego thing. But it’s a different theory.)

What happens when you unite the two, the ‘-‘ and the ‘I’? That’s right. You get a ‘+’, which is a positive!

So there. You can easily turn a negative into a positive if you, meaning ‘I’, engage with the negative. How do you do that? By being awake, present, and part of the solution. When you stand up to be counted. When you flip from being a horizontal ‘-‘ to an upright ‘I’.

What if you decide not to stand up, but to lie down? Then ‘I’ becomes ‘-‘. Not awake, not present, not part of any solution.

Of course, there is another way of looking at this. You cannot go with the flow if you are upright (‘I’). You will flow much easier if you are horizontal (‘-‘). Sometimes being horizontal, going with the flow, is the best way to deal with life’s negatives. (I admit I like this way very much.)

So keep in mind it is not always about changing negatives into positives, or, heaven forbid, positives into negatives. Because we need both. Like a battery needs a positive terminal and a negative terminal. Else it cannot do its job. And what is its job? To deliver a charge.

The trick is to know when to stand up, and when to lie down. To know when to use your charge by being present and part of the solution and when to preserve your charge by going horizontal, by going with the flow.

Remember, not all negatives are bad. Dark is still the best time to see the stars.
