#245: Expecting More of the Same Is Just Insane
When you suddenly face Goliath, what does your gut say? Big is best! Instinctively, we believe that size matters. Even though we all know many stories of Davids who have knocked down Goliaths, we still trust in size. Why?
At the base of our instinct hides a very old fear. We instinctively fear that which is bigger than us. And so we fear competition more when it looks bigger, not because it might be better.
Out of this fear, we focus on our own growth, believing that growth will lead to size will lead to power will lead to success. At our peril, we ignore the fact that growth is not development.
Growth is more of the same. More of the same is not an effective response to competition, not in a changing world.
Remember, Goliath expected more of the same, more of what he was used to. David did not oblige.
Welcome to my side of the nonsense divide.
